Still the Best for Western Wear

We are proud to announce that Langston’s Western Wear has won the Daily Oklahoman’s Reader’s Choice award for best Western Wear Store. I believe the publication has been doing this poll for about 16 years and Langston’s has won it every year the category has been included. In a city with many fine western wear options, we feel that is saying a lot and is reflective of our commitment to our customer. Of course, we won’t let this make us complacent. We will continue to strive to provide the best service and quality merchandise to our customers, be they in our stores on visiting us online. Please feel free to contact us anytime if you have any comments, suggestions, recommendations, or just to say “hello”. Thank you, Oklahoma and Daily Oklahoman readers for once again voting us as your favorite place to shop for your western wear needs.

We’d also like to congratulate our neighbors in the Stockyards, Little Joe’s Boots, for their second place finish and to Cattlemen’s Steakhouse for their inclusion as one of the best places to get a steak.

The Western Wardrobe Destination

Southern Living recently sent two of its editors to the Oklahoma National Stockyards in search of western wear and they of course ended up at Langston’s! They recommended the store as a great place for boots – giving us a 3 horseshoe rating (the highest given). The article sites the many Ariat riding boots for women that we carry, Minnetonka moccasins, Justin and Tony Lama boots as well as our John Deere Boots – even available for babies!

We also had a rating of 3 horseshoes for Shirts, Belts and Jeans. They mention the hand-tooled leather purses, sequined belts we carry in store, as well as the Montana Silversmith belt buckles, Panhandle Slim shirts, Cruel Girl and Wrangler Jeans we carry both online and in stores.

No western look is complete without a hat – and we offer a wide range to choose from. So if you are in the OKC area, please stop by our Historic location in the Oklahoma National Stockyards (click here for directions) and get outfitted by our knowledgeable staff. Elsewhere in Oklahoma, please visit us at I-240 and Shields Blvd, or in Midwest City at 15th and Midwest Blvd. or in Yukon at 1105 Garth Brooks Blvd.

Closing Cases in Cowboy Boots

What is Kyra Sedgwick’s favorite must have fashion item? I would assume it is her husband Kevin Bacon – but I guess according to the July issue of InStyle, I am wrong. The star of the TNT hit series The Closer told InStyle that she considers herself to be a collector when it comes to cowboy boots.

Back in the 80s when her hubbie was rockin his own pair of boots in Footloose, Kyra found a pair of red  Lucchese boots that she says are still her favorite boots today. Check out the July issue of InStyle to see more of Kyra’s favorite things. ..sorry to tell you there are no pics of Kevin in the article.

I checked with our stores and found that we only have a few Men’s Lucchese boots in stock at our Stockyards (405-235-9536) location, but as always, they said they’d be willing to special order any Lucchese boots if they didn’t have what you want. If you wan to start a collection (and save a little money) there are many styles of Justin Boots and Ariat Boots  online and in all of our stores. While me may all like Krya’s choice in boots, we may not all have TV star money to buy them with.

In the meantime, I dug up some more information in Lucchese Boots and wanted to share. The Lucchese Boot Company (in case you were wondering how to say it – it is Lu-K-C)  was established in San Antonio, Texas in 1883 by Sam Lucchese Sr. and his brothers just 3 years after arriving in America. In the early 1960s Sam Lucchese Jr. took over the business with the goal to create a perfect fitting boot.  According to Sam, “If you cut leather for your boots in the same way you would carve up a meat carcass for your dinner table, you will be in good shape.”  I really have no idea what exactly he means, but I am pretty sure his Thanksgiving turkey was carved to perfection – and clearly the man was not a vegetarian. His knack for carving leather led to boots that are made primarily by hand and gained national recognition for the company.  Still today they are celebrated as a one-of-a kind boot with extraordinary comfort, quality and fit.

Hello, Warm Weather!

It’s starting to look a whole lot like spring here in Langston’s neck of the woods. That usually means temperatures in the mid-to-high 70s and lots of wind. But we’re used to that. Luckily, it also means that it’s about time to break out our t-shirts and tank tops.

We’ve got some great new t-shirts for the guys from Rock & Roll Cowboy, as well as new tees, tanks, and cool new short-sleeved hoodies for the ladies from Rock & Roll Cowgirl.

So come on by and see the new tops and tees. Spring is here, and that means that summer is right around the corner.

PBR On Versus

It’s going to be a long 11 months until the PBR returns to Oklahoma City. It was such a great event and we had such a great time at our autograph signing party, we’ll have to do everything we can to keep from counting the days until the 2009 PBR comes in what may be an already improved Ford Center (see below).

Thankfully, the Versus channel is set to give us our bullriding (and bullfighting) fix every week. It’s the next best thing to being there and if the video above doesn’t get you fired up, then you should probably stick to the Lifetime Network.

Coming up this weekend is the Portland Invitational, March 15, 16, and 17. Check out the Versus PBR page for times and channel listings in your area.

Wrangler to Launch New Line of Western Shirts (Preview)

Wrangler will be launching a new line of western snap shirts in the coming weeks called ‘Rock Star 47′. The 47 is for the year Wrangler was founded and the ‘Rock Star’ sums up the new look. These are pretty cool shirts and we’re really excited about them. Each shirt is made with 100% cotton and some feature screenprinted graphics while others boast embroidered designs. They’re all long sleeved, “pearl snap” button up shirts, which always prove to be versatile.

Initially, we expect to have about 6 different styles to choose from. They’ll be available on our website and in most of our stores. Keep an eye on our Wrangler Shirts page.

Autographs, YES! Snow & Ice, NO!

When it comes to Oklahoma weather, you can never be sure what you’re going to get. The forecast for this past Saturday was for freezing temperatures and icy wetness, which would have kept folks at home in front of the fireplace. But somehow the weather decided to cooperate with our PBR in-store autograph session, and the turnout was great! With top PBR bull riders like Justin McBride and Brandon Clark and top bull fighters including Frank Newsom, the event was truly memorable. With photo ops, autographs, and live music courtesy of Sons of the Sage, Saturday was a great time for all rodeo and bull riding fans. And a special congratulations to our VIP winners (you know who you are).

Here are some pics from the event:
