PBR Bullnanza at the Lazy E Arena

PBR Bullnanza is coming back to the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma, and Langston’s will be hosting an autograph party to help celebrate. This year’s Bullnanza features two great events. The Copenhagen Challenger Tour makes its stop at the Lazy E on Friday night, when 40 of the top PBR bull riders will compete for a chance at the Copenhagen title. After the 40 riders compete, the top 10 will come back for the exclusive Bullnanza Short Go. That’s 50 great rides making for a great night of guts and glory at the Lazy E.

On Saturday, the Lazy E will host the 4th stop on the PBR Team Shootout tour. The “Winner Take All $50,000” two man team competition features the greatest bull riders in the world. Fans will have the opportunity to see bull riding legends like current world leader Guilherme Marchi (Leme, SP, Brazil), three-time PBR World Champion Adriano Moraes (Cachoeira Paulista, SP, Brazil), 2002 PBR World Champion Ednei Caminhas (Presidente Alves, SP, Brazil) and 2004 World Champion Mike Lee (Decatur, Texas). The event will also air on ESPN 2, on September 7th, at 6:30 pm EST. Check out the Lazy E’s Bullnanza page for teams and details.

To help celebrate the event, Langston’s Western Wear will be hosting an autograph party featuring some of the best bull riders and bull fighters in the business (watch this space for a list of names) at our flagship store in Stockyards City on Saturday, August 23 at 11am. At the event, we’ll also be giving away 2 VIP tickets to Saturday night’s competition. So come by and see us, meet some of the toughest guys on the planet, and have a chance to get the VIP treatment to this year’s event.

Style at any age

In this month’s InStyle Magazine they have an article that’s aim is to keep us “Fashionably On Point – anywhere at any age.” The article really does not tell me how to look great during my 18-month old’s gymnastics class while I chase him around in a warehouse that tops 100 degrees – but it does have some style points that are worth reading. Mostly I looked at the advice for when wearing jeans – and of course I looked at all the ages they listed.

I mean, I was 20 something, am now 30 something, will be 40 something one day – and was just amazed at how great Iman looks, so I looked at the 50 something page too. Let’s start there – once you get over the shock that Iman is really over 50, check out how sheik she looks in jeans! She paired Levi’s ® 518 ™ with a simple t-shirt and a structured blazer – and she looks amazing! This look works for any age. For a younger version, try wearing a printed T-shirt under the blazer – there are some new cute ones on our women’s shirts page that would work great.

Next we move to the 40 somethings. Carrie – uh, I mean Sarah Jessica Parker – is shown in skinny jeans. The advice is that you need to pair them with something more upscale. I don’t think we need to go as far as Manolo Blahniks, but if you have them – go for it!!! For the rest of us, heels and a nice blouse will do the trick. I might also try rockin these black Justin Punchy Boots with my skinny jeans. You can try these straight leg jeans and the rumor is that we will be getting some new skinny jeans from Levi’s ® soon.

30 somethings. This is where I fit in. Right next to Penelope Cruz. I tell you, we are like twins! This page suggests pairing jeans with something tailored and fitted for an overall sleek look. I agree that this is the way to go. At 17 jeans and a well worn sweatshirt worked – but these days that look just isn’t cutting it. I’d go with these Lucky Brand Classic Rider Jeans. Looks like there are some good sizes left and for $59.97, that’s not bad for some Lucky’s in real people sizes. Pair it with a simple fitted t-shirt or in the winter with a slim sweater and you too will look like Penelope….well – maybe not, but you will look put together.

And last, the 20 somethings. I think at 20 you can pretty much pull any of these looks off. In Style shows Sienna Miller in tomboy tough jeans and what they call “soft English Countryside” on top. Umm – ok. Really she is just in a tee, a cardigan and a very over sized scarf. She completes the look with ankle boots. I am not really sure who can pull this look off other than her – and honestly she is not really doing it either. But it does show that a good pair of jeans can work with anything!

NY Times: Oklahoma City Booming with New Exuberance

View From Arts District - Oklahoma City

From time to time we like to share a little bit about where we’re from. It’s always nice to put a little personality on this too-often impersonal medium called the internet. To help tell you a little about what we’re “all about”, we like to point you to an article in today’s New York Times Travel section about Oklahoma City.

In a recent visit, the author found a city that mixes all the elements commonly associated with the Midwest, the West, and a bit of the South. From the “noirish-cool” Lobby Bar on Western Avenue to the “True West” setting of Cattlemen’s Steakhouse in the Oklahoma National Stockyards (just across the street from us!), the author really stretched his legs and dug into the many facets of the city. A visit to the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, with its grand displays of western art, followed by a stop at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, with the largest permanent installation of Dale Chihuly glass sculptures including the 55 foot tall center piece in the museum’s atrium, reinforced that this is a place where many aspects of all types of “western” culture come together in a natural a seamless way.

And it wasn’t just the food and museums that gave him this impression. The author found that the people represented this mixture of cultures as well:

“While I was in town, a nationally known local psychedelic band, the Flaming Lips, screened a homemade movie and music extravaganza, “Christmas on Mars,” to a raucous crowd at the deadCENTER Film Festival. At the same time, the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum was hosting a gathering of contemporary Western artists — imagine a group of people resembling the cast of a Sam Peckinpah movie with paintbrushes. There is also a frisson in the air over the news that the city has managed to snag a National Basketball Association franchise, with the SuperSonics moving here from Seattle next season. “

So, if you plan on visiting us soon or just want to know more about this place where all your Langston’s packages are coming from, check out the NY Times article here. For more pictures check out the Slide Show.

Country Weekly Fashion Show

Back in early June Country Weekly hosted their annual fashion show. Wrangler was one of the sponsors – which translated into lots of handsome men in perfect fitting jeans. Want to see for yourself? Check out these pics! These guys might be famous for their voices – but they way they look in jeans is right up there.

The Fashion Show benefited Musicians On Call, a great organization that delivers the healing powers of music to patients in need. I am positive music helps heal – but I think a hunk in some tight jeans would probably help me if I was ailing. Any of these great Wrangler Styleswould be perfect – add a shiny belt buckle, a hattipped just right and deep velvety voice – ah yes…I feel better all ready!

AQHYA World Show Kicks Off in OKC!!
