Wear It: Borrowed

Leann Rimes’ latest video is from her upcoming very personal album Spitfire and it’s called Borrowed. The whole video is shot from the recording studio session and I’m loving her casual easy look. Let’s check it out.

Now, I know we can’t see if this is a full on dress that she is wearing or a long tunic she has belted but I think it would honestly look cute either way. I’m going to go with the tunic and jeans look today. What’s important in terms of getting Leann’s look is to belt the flowy top and then accent it with a long necklace as well. I’d pair it with some light jeans and these fantastic cut out short boots.

Rock & Roll Cowgirl Women’s Low Rise Boot Cut Jeans with Hand Stitched Embroidery
Ariat Women’s 9″ Paloma Cowgirl Boots – Oak Barrel
Lucky Brand Women’s Woodland Cutout Belt
Kender West Women’s Two Strand Turquoise Stone Necklace with Copper Insets

The great thing about this outfit is that if you get cold you can throw on a shawl or cardigan over all these pieces and it will enhance the look even more. Try it out!

Cooking

When it comes to country cooking, The Pioneer Woman is a one stop shop. She has recipes on her site for cowboy food, cowgirl food, sweets – you name it! Frito Chili Pie is a staple in these parts. I love it. Warm, comforting – the perfect winter meal. Lately though I have wanted to lighten it up some. Skinny Taste makes a chicken chili that is every bit as satisfying as beef chili but a bit nicer to the hips!

New Music Releases

We’ve got a few new things for you today in terms of new music releases…first up, Kris Kristofferson has a new album out, Feeling Mortal, and it’s pure classic traditional country. You can’t get much better than a Kris Kristofferson written song! Check out the title track: Feeling Mortal.

blake_shelton_sure_be_cool_UCN
Blake Shelton has a new single out called Sure Be Cool If You Did. Lately Blake Shelton can’t disappoint with anything he comes out with and this one is no different.

Emerson-Drive-Roll
Emerson Drive also has a new album out called Roll. Lots of uptempo songs on this one with a few ballads thrown in. I’d give She’s My Kind of Crazy, We Are This Town and Love Hangover a listen for sure.

Tim-McGraw-2013-300-02
There’s also a compilation album of Tim McGraw duets that just recently came out via Curb Records called Tim McGraw & Friends. It’s got a lot of our favorite duets including Tony Bennett, Faith Hill, Jo Dee Messina and Randy Travis. This is a good one to get if you didn’t end up getting these duets off some of these other artists albums.

What else are yall listening to these days? There’s definitely some great albums coming out in February that I can’t wait to listen to!

How do I love thee?

How much do I love this tunic? 3 ways, 3 very fun and different ways…all equally amazing. This Wrangler Women’s Chiffon Print Tunic Dress is 100% polyester chiffon with a scoop neck. I love, love, love the flare at the wrist sleeves.

This tunic dress works 3 ways in my opinion – with boots, heels and flats or flip flops. I see it right now in these wintery temps with tights and boots. This spring I would rock it with sky high heels and then this summer I could see throwing it on over my bikini with some flip flops. What do you think? Does this dress do triple duty?

Vendor Spotlight – ATX Mafia

The girls behind ATX Mafia were tired of clothing trends being dictated by both coasts. They wanted fun, easy to wear tees that were created with a southern soul. They wanted their clothing to represent Austin and be “casual and cool, creative and unique, fun-loving and real.”

We carry the shirts made in conjunction with our friend Miss Ali Dee. Ali is the sweetest southern girl we know, who still packs a bit of Texas punch!

Careful when you buy a tee though, it is the mafia…“Once you’re in, you’re in.

Wear It: Imagine That

I grew up listening to Don Williams. Tulsa Time? It Must Be Love? Lord, I Hope This Day Is Good? Come on, that’s the good stuff I tell you! So when I heard that he had a new song out AND a video I had to hear/watch it. Bonus points: Keith Urban plays and sings along With Don!

I think Don’s look hasn’t changed much since the good old days and yet it is so not out of style! Anyone can totally pull off this look. Here’s how you can do it the Langston’s way!

Miller Ranch Men’s Fleece Lined Jacket – Black
Cinch Men’s Long Sleeve Solid Button Down Western Shirt – Blue
Wrangler Men’s 20XTREME® No. 42 Cowboy Vintage Boot Cut Jeans – High Noon
Corral Men’s Distressed Black Boots with Gold Wings and Silver Crosses

So what do you think? Are you a big Don Williams fan and glad he’s back on the scene again?

Blog love

My reader is filled with blogs that have a country/western spin on them. A few things I spotted recently that caught my eye….

I love the styling of these Corral boot by Western Glamour. Pairing them with leather pants is unexpected and fun. And the turquois top really helps the boots to pop.

Check out how Urban Country Style is wearing her low boots and boyfriend jeans. I think I might try this look with my Dingo boots.

Are any of you Horse Show winners? Raquel for Horses and Heels posted a fun round up of what to do with your ribbons.

I love gaining inspiration from these blogs!

New Music Releases

Gary-Allan-Set-You-Free
Gary Allan has a new release out today called Set You Free. It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from Gary Allan, or at least it feels that way. There has definitely been some ups and downs in his personal life and so you know this album is going to showcase some of those feelings. Allan has a rough sexy voice and he never fails to disappoint us in his songs. This is a great album and he co-wrote and produced many of the songs on the album.

There are tons of different sounds on this album but it really seems to all work together. Here are some of my favorites at first listen: Every Storm Runs Out of Rain, Sand in my Soul, Drop, Good As New. If you listen to those you will be a happy camper for sure.

What else are you listening to these days?

Borrowed shirt

I love a good flannel shirt. On your husband, dad, brother or son…it just makes you want to give them a huge hug. So soft and comforting. I also love to borrow that shirt for myself! Years ago in the age of grunge that meant leaving it open and untucked over a concert tee and baggy jeans. In 2013 we can still borrow a big flannel shirt, the look is just updated and much sleeker…and more flattering.

Slim denim helps streamline this look. Because this Pendelton shirt has both black and blue in it, you can wear it with brown or black boots/belt and it looks great. It could be paired with denim jeggings and brown or black boots. Personally, I love it with these grey Levi’s jeggings which nicely offset these navy blue Pecos Bill boots.

Vendor Spotlight – Minnetonka

I don’t know about you, but I feel like Minnetonka was everywhere this Fall and Winter. In a good way! I saw tons of cute outfits based around mocs and booties and don’t get me started on the kids mocs. I think they were, and are, the go to gift for newborns.

Minnetonka was founded back in 1946 and has been going strong since then. There are so many things to love about the company. Much like Langston’s, they are a family business. I love seeing that they are in their 4th generation of family running their operations. If you watch the great video on their site, they talk about how the mocs are all hand crafted, and how they are a piece of Americana.

They may be trendy at times, but they do not chase trends. They are a classic. One that will come back into style again and again. Another thing that is always said about Minnetonka is how comfortable they are. And they are! if you ever wanted to leave your house in slippers, now is your chance!

I love my classic mocs, but my go to this winter has been these Calf Hi Tan Suede Fringe Boots.
