Still the Best for Western Wear

We are proud to announce that Langston’s Western Wear has won the Daily Oklahoman’s Reader’s Choice award for best Western Wear Store. I believe the publication has been doing this poll for about 16 years and Langston’s has won it every year the category has been included. In a city with many fine western wear options, we feel that is saying a lot and is reflective of our commitment to our customer. Of course, we won’t let this make us complacent. We will continue to strive to provide the best service and quality merchandise to our customers, be they in our stores on visiting us online. Please feel free to contact us anytime if you have any comments, suggestions, recommendations, or just to say “hello”. Thank you, Oklahoma and Daily Oklahoman readers for once again voting us as your favorite place to shop for your western wear needs.

We’d also like to congratulate our neighbors in the Stockyards, Little Joe’s Boots, for their second place finish and to Cattlemen’s Steakhouse for their inclusion as one of the best places to get a steak.

Lucky In St. Louis

St. Louis Arch = Sweet and Low Lucky Jeans

The August issue of Glamour Magazine is jam packed with advice about jeans. In one section they list the best selling jean in a few different cities. In St. Louis the best selling jean is the Sweet N Low by Lucky Jeans. I am a HUGE fan of these jeans. They sit low, but not too low. They have some flare at the bottom, but not too much. They really just fit well. They look equally good with a pair of your best boots as they do with a pair of comfy flip flops.

Anyway, the fact that this jean was listed was no surprise to me. What was a shocker was the price tag. It shows them at an average of $88!!! Hello???!?!?!? People? Welcome to Langston’s where you can buy them for $59.97! ($49.97 with coupon, just two days left!) Are you still reading this post or have you already jumped over to the Sweet and Low page…yeah – that was what I thought. Just leave me some in my size ok?

By the way, the rest of the Glamour article is good too – lots of ways to wear jeans, dress them up or down, different finishes and fits and even some care advice – although the advice is to not dry your jeans in the drier and I just can’t hang with that. I am a wash and dry kind of girl – and I have not seen any significant fade on my jeans from drying them.

A well worn pair of jeans…

A well worn pair of jeans…

I was reading an article at the doctor’s office a while back in some news magazine – an old issue of Newsweek I think. The interview was on George Clooney and it described him walking into the interview in a pair of well worn jeans and a t-shirt. Today I was reading in the July issue of Elle about Matthew Goode (an amazingly hot British actor – if you are not familiar with him you should be!) and it also described him arriving at the interview in a pair of well worn jeans – Levi’s® to be exact. This is a trend that I see all the time. It is just such a classic, timeless, sexy look – well worn jeans and a simple white, black or grey shirt. We see leading men all over Hollywood and beyond donning the look.

When did it all start? This classically sexy look? James Dean? He was the original bad boy in dusty, faded jeans and a white tee. The 80s brought us John Travolta in Urban Cowboy in his tight fitting dark washed jeans. The rappers in the 90s made baggy jeans with a bit of boxer top showing a staple in all magazines. Whatever decade it is, whatever style you lean towards – a pair of great fitting jeans and a simple tee shirt seems to always work as a classic go to look.

The site just added a special Levi’s® closeout 505® jean for just $29.97. I think it’s a great example of what I’m talking about. The fit is as classic as it gets: more or less a 501® with a zipper. The finish looks like this has been your favorite jean for years.

Straight Leg Jeans

Rachel Bilson will forever be linked to The OC won’t she? I guess everyone has that problem. I will always think of Michael J. Fox as Alex P Keaton and Will Smith as the Fresh Prince, so I guess it is only fair that she remains Summer Roberts. Anyway, beyond her TV role, she should be looked to as a sample of easy to wear Southern California style as pointed out by Cosmopolitan Magazine in their July issue. Rachel is shown in billowy tops, straight leg jeans, funky cuff bracelets and summer clutch purses. This is an easy to wear style for all body types and ages. We carry a bunch of different Levi’s® Straight Leg styles that you can choose from to copy Rachel’s look.

Weekend Deal: Get 10% off any jeans on our women’s straight leg jeans page. Just enter coupon code straight001 at checkout. Valid this weekend only. Expires July 14, 2008.

My 2nd Blog by Paul Bonds

Hey, I hope things are good back in Langston’s country. The hot weather gives me the opportunity to make a decision and travel with the geese. I head to Canada in the summer.

After the PBRs and a small break, I started my rodeo run in Lindsay, Ontario for Rawhide Rodeo Co. They have had numerous bucking animal awards and put on the second largest rodeo in Canada, the Western Festival de St.Tite. I enjoy rodeoing here. The sport doesn’t have much tradition here so the people are very excited to see a bullfighter perform.

Last year we had a rodeo in St. Andre, Ontario. We bucked a new bull and threw the cowboy off early in the ride. I felt like I needed to see his “bull” qualities better so I went to fight him. He introduced himself in a typical bull manner. He put his foot in my head and pushed 5 ribs out of place. It made for a few rough weeks after that. I had a friend stitch me up with fishing line and a saddle-sewing needle. A chiropractor helped with the rib cage but I had to fight for a few weeks ‘til I could get to one. The new bull, whom I see all the time now, received a new name, “James Bond”, because of my last name. I think Rawhide Rodeo Company seen some humor in this.

It’s been a great season so far and I am looking forward to getting in to Langston’s to pick up a couple of cowboy hats. In the meantime, one more rodeo in Ontario and a PCB bull riding in St. Charles, IL on my way to protect America’s future in Farmington, NM at the National High School Finals Rodeo.

Zooey Deschanel prefers Levi’s® over designers

Finally – style advice from a celeb that does not break the bank. In this month’s Lucky Magazine Zooey Deschanel admits that she never got into the designer jean craze. She prefers Levi’s® – which are affordable and fit great. Now here’s a celebrity I can actually relate to! Granted, she is still pairing them with tops that will break the bank – but at least part of the outfit is in my range. Her jeans of choice are Levi’s® 501s®.

Zooey shares with readers her love of pastel blouses with lots of ruffles. The shirts shown look great – but they are very feminine and might need a simple pant to even it out. The boyfriend jean that Zooey wears off-sets the soft flowing tops perfectly. Pair a pastel top with the darker finish to really highlight the blouse for an evening look or choose a lighter finish for an overall fresh and summery look. She also mentions that she likes to pair a colored slip or cami under dresses or sheer shirts. I think a bright cami peaking out from a white button up shirt over jeans would be the perfect look for a night out – say to the movies…like to see The Happening. No spoilers on this site, but I will tell you this – no dancing from Marky Mark, and no singing either. I feel gypped. Levi’s® 501® jeans, as well as many other Levi’s® jeans, are available online.
