To answer your question: yes, the four alarm fire that destroyed Quality Pets near 15th and Agnew this afternoon was a little too close for comfort for all of us at Langston’s. The bad news is, the building appears to be a total loss, and there were a number of pets-to-be lost in the fire. The good news, however, is that all employees escaped without injury in what may be the biggest fire I’ve ever seen. With high winds out of the north wreaking havoc on the flames (but keeping them away from the adjacent gas station!), the brave folks from the OKC Fire Department had a real challenge on their hands. It took well over an hour to get the fire under control, but they managed to buy enough time to make it possible for employees and a few good neighbors to carry countless animals to safety. Kudos to everyone who lent a hand, and especially to the brave men and women of the Oklahoma City Fire Department. Our little neighborhood won’t be the same, but it could’ve been much, much worse. We here at Langston’s are relieved that there were no serious injuries, and saddened by the loss of so many helpless animals. Our intrepid “blogtographer” (is that a word?) managed to snap these up close & personal shots we’d like to share.
Wrangler will be launching a new line of western snap shirts in the coming weeks called ‘Rock Star 47′. The 47 is for the year Wrangler was founded and the ‘Rock Star’ sums up the new look. These are pretty cool shirts and we’re really excited about them. Each shirt is made with 100% cotton and some feature screenprinted graphics while others boast embroidered designs. They’re all long sleeved, “pearl snap” button up shirts, which always prove to be versatile.
Initially, we expect to have about 6 different styles to choose from. They’ll be available on our website and in most of our stores. Keep an eye on our Wrangler Shirts page.
On the heels of Bravo’s Project Runway episode that featured design contestants creating a new outfit using the material from a pair of Levi’s ® 501 ® jeans and a Levi’s ® Trucker jean jacket, Levi’s ® is having a contest of their own. The rules were pretty much the same: use the jeans and the jacket to create a new look that “captures the originality and youthful spirit of Levi’s ®”.
The entries have been submitted and judging is taking place now, but you can still participate by voting on your top 3 of the 20 finalists. You have to register to vote, but you can win a $501 gift certificate to use on levi.com (not valid at Langston’s stores or langstons.com). Check out the finalists and vote at the Levi’s Project 501 page.
I haven’t seen the Project Runway episode yet, but they rerun these things all the time. It’s called ‘Even the Designers Get the Blues” and according to the Bravo website it’s scheduled to run again this coming Monday, the 25th, at 8pm and next Wednesday, the 27th, at 6pm. So, set your DVRs for the show, vote for your favorites in the Project 501 contest, and maybe win a gift certificate for levi.com. But if you don’t win, don’t worry, we’ll hook you up with some great Levi’s ® products over at our place…
When it comes to Oklahoma weather, you can never be sure what you’re going to get. The forecast for this past Saturday was for freezing temperatures and icy wetness, which would have kept folks at home in front of the fireplace. But somehow the weather decided to cooperate with our PBR in-store autograph session, and the turnout was great! With top PBR bull riders like Justin McBride and Brandon Clark and top bull fighters including Frank Newsom, the event was truly memorable. With photo ops, autographs, and live music courtesy of Sons of the Sage, Saturday was a great time for all rodeo and bull riding fans. And a special congratulations to our VIP winners (you know who you are).
You’ve waited long enough for some new Lucky Jeans closeouts from us, so we thought we’d let you know right away that we have 5 new Men’s styles online, all for $59.97. These are some the best finishes we’ve gotten, too.
We have 4 darker washes and one medium, with various vintage features and character. We have two finishes of the popular 181 bootleg jean, 2 relaxed fit bootleg fits, and one slim bootleg for more of a rocker look. With the exception of the slim fit, these jeans also feature less damage and nicking than some of our recent jeans, making them more in line with recent denim trends towards cleaner and darker looks. But, we know you don’t want to read about them, you want see them:
Levi’s ® isn’t just about great jeans. They also make a lot of great shirts, t-shirts, shorts, tops, and accessories. This year we plan on expanding our online offering of these quality and fashionable products.
First off, because sometimes it’s just too hot for jeans (ok, we never think it’s too hot for jeans, but not everyone thinks the same way we do), we’ve put up some popular Cargo Shorts for Men in both Khaki and Camouflage (see below). The Levi’s ® Cavalry Cargo Short is a geart everyday short that goes great with anything, which is why we thought khaki would be a good way to go. Sitting low on the hip and hitting at the knee, the shorts feature everything you’d expect from Levi’s ® , including the stitched arcuate on the back pockets. For $24.97, you won’t find a better basic khaki short.
BUT, even better, we have a camouflage version of the Levi’s ® Core Cargo Short that’s only $21.97. If you’re looking for something a little more fashionable, but still great for everyday wear, we’d go with the camo.
Of course, summer also means t-shirts and Levi’s ® has some great designs this year. For the western purist there’s the Bronco Tee, featuring a distressed logo with a bucking bronco. For a more rocking look, there’s the Rocker Tee and, my personal favorite, the Crosswings Tee, which features a skull and wings on a dark rust, or braken, colored Tee. All are just $14.97 and you can check them out below or at our Levi’s ® Shirts page.
It’s finally here. The Copenhagen Bull Riding Challenger Tour Championship presented by Dickies hits the Ford Center in downtown Oklahoma City tonight. You won’t want to miss this year’s event with some of the best bull riders and bullfighters in the world.
There are some changes to note: A matinée session has been added on Saturday at Noon. Because of this, the Dickies bullfighters will be at our Saturday autograph session earlier that morning. The bull riders are still scheduled for 11am – 1pm, but the bull fighters will have to take off early for the matinée event. The good news is that this should give everyone easier access to both bullfighters and bull riders, so you’ll be sure to meet all the great PBR talent face to face.
And, of course, there’ll still be the big drawing for free VIP tickets to Saturday night’s event. Plus, the winner will get a limo ride to the event and dinner in bricktown! You can’t beat that. It’s going to be a rockin’ rowdy weekend in Oklahoma City!
Just a gentle reminder that the Copenhagen Bull Riding Challenger Tour Championship presented by Dickies will be kicking off the festivities on Friday, February 15th at the Ford Center in downtown Oklahoma City. The lineup has changed slightly due to injuries, but that won’t put a damper on one of the top bull riding competitions in the world.
Also be sure to stop by Langston’s flagship store in the historic Stockyards City district of Oklahoma City on Saturday, Februrary 16th from 11am to 1pm for an official PBR autograph session. We’ll also be drawing for the winner of our VIP tickets package (courtesy of Rocky Boots and Langston’s Western Wear) for Saturday night’s festivities at noon on Saturday, and you must be present to win.
So take this opportunity to check out the toughest athletes on dirt, doing what they do best, and get an autograph and the chance win some VIP tickets while you’re at it.
For ticket and event information, check the PBR’s website. Here’s a little something to whet your appetites:
